Assam can boast of its unique collection of snacks and sweet dishes. Pithas, both salted and sweet, are famous and indigenous pan cake preparation with rice powder. Besides, tasty Jolpan(heavy snack) prepared of Chira(rice flake), Muri(puffed rice) and many other ingredients are worth mentioning here.
While Jolpan can also be served as the main food, Pitha, Laru(balls made commonly either of coconut or of sesame seed) can be served as snacks with tea or as side dish along with Jolpan or as a dessert after food.
Assamese snack preparation is very easy and contains no spice at all. Some Pithas are deep fried while others are baked. One complete Jolpan is ideal for breakfast and high tea. It's highly nutritious and tasty.
